Hamburg State Opera

First-class artistic performances make a visit to the Hamburg State Opera an unsurpassable cultural experience.

This is ensured by John Neumeier’s Ballett Company as well as the Australian conductor Simone Young, who was appointed Artistic Director of the Hamburg State Opera in 2005. This lady, who is both Opera Director and Hamburg’s Principal Music Director, presents magnificent stagings of a vast selection of operas ranging from classical to contemporary - – fascinating musical and dramatic works.

The heart of this opera is the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra – it was established around 175 years ago and plays at almost all the opera and ballet evenings as well as the Philharmonic Concerts in Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle.
