Founded in 1879 the Museum für Völkerkunde (Museum of Anthropology) is today one of Europe’s largest anthropological museums and documents the art and cultural histories of the peoples of the world.

The comprehensive collections amassed by Hamburg merchants and scientists for this museum, founded in 1879, now total close to 700,000 exhibits, photos and documents from all over the world.
