Widows’ Apartments (Kramer-Witwen-Wohnungen)

The widows’ apartments at the foot of St Michael’s (the church fondly known by
Hamburg residents as “Michel“) is the last preserved courtyard apartment complex and offers an impression of middle-class life in past centuries.

Furnished in Biedermeier style, the small apartments radiate peace and comfort, but are also reminiscent of the difficulties of everyday life at a time when most creature comforts were lacking.
