Around the Alster
The big lake in the heart of the green Hanseatic City is a paradise for yachtsmen, oarsmenand paddlers alike.
The Alster Lake with a circumference of 7.6 km originating from the 13th Century is a popular meeting place for recreation, joggers and walkers alike. The Hanseatic citizens like to enjoy their oasis with an "Alsterwasser". Do you know what that is? It is a very refreshing lager shandy…. Just as refreshing as the Alster Lake itself.
Don’t miss out on one of the innumerable Alsterboat round trips. From Jungfernstieg (near the underground tube station), the Alster steamers start a tour over the lake and through the canals several times a day, offering appealing sights on the silhouette of the city. Also a nice walk around the Alster is worthwhile because some of the most sought-after residential areas of Hamburg are located around it and also the well-known Atlantic hotel.
