Transport – Getting from A to B without a Hitch
The local public transport company HVV (Hamburger Verkehrsbund) provides exemplary service for mobility-impaired visitors.
Most of the city rail and underground (S-Bahn and U-Bahn) networks, as well as the bus network have already been retrofitted to allow for disabled passengers. Thus 90% of all buses in service are now equipped with lowering ramps. Special aids for the sight-impaired too: at many stations on underground and city rail services, grooved panels with coloured stripes make orientation easier; acoustic signals and strongly contrasting markers simplify use.
On HVV's website you will find a route plan which provides information on access aids at stations. A particularly convenient service from HVV: your personalised travel plan. Here you can enter online your point of departure and destination as well as many other criteria, for example, "avoid changing" or "disabled-friendly". The comprehensive HVV information package is an ideal way to start a stress-free tour of the Hanseatic city.
