Three Day's Sightseeing

First day

The nicest and easiest way to explore the Alster is on an Alster tour by Alster steamer. The tour also takes you along the numerous canals where you can admire the splendid villas from their backyard gardens…

Unusually magnificent for hanseatic tastes: The splendid Hamburg Town Hall dominates the city centre with its impressive architecture.

Not far away and in the middle of the city you can take a walk through the famous park Planten un Blomen. Inside there is also a Botanical Garden with a hothouse and the largest Japanese garden in Europe, a silent but impressive attraction. Enjoy at summer one of the beautiful water-light concerts in the park…

Why not consult our Dining and Hotspot Guide for the evening’s palatal delights? Well-fed and contented, you can enjoy yourself afterwards at one of the many events on offer in Hamburg...

Second day

A very special highlight of a visit to Hamburg is a long harbour tour which departs from the Landungsbrücken (jetties). It’s best to enquire by telephone beforehand on the day of your visit if the roundtrip also goes through the Storehouse City, because the barges cannot sail through ony every tide. On the trip itself the captain gives you a lot of very interesting information about the harbour.

Afterwards you can walk through the Old River Elbe Tunnel under the Elbe, which is always open for pedestrians. From the other side - the shipyard island Steinwerder - you can enjoy the unique Elbe panorama with a view of the harbour quay, the "Michel" and the Rickmer Rickmers - one of three famous museums ships which can be explored.

On with the tour, the 132-metre-high tower of St. Michaelis, the "Michel", is the landmark of the hanseatic city.  Its lookout point offers a marvellous view of Hamburg and the harbour.

Still got time and energy? Then why not go to Blankenese, the refined Elbe neighbourhood, either by HVV harbour ferry or by bus. After that, you can admire the sunset on Elbe Beach as well...

Third day

On a city tour on a red double-decker bus or by the Hamburg "Hummeltrain" you will become acquainted with a bit more of Hamburg in complete comfort.

You can interrupt your tour with the red double-decker bus for a break as often as you like. Get off in the Storehouse City and explore the impressive historical area once again by feet...

Have you got time and energy to spare for some culture before your trip to the Zoo Hagenbeck? Then why not call in at one of the museums on Hamburg’s museum row, between the station and the Deichtorhallen – or at the Speicherstadt museum or one of the many exhibition attractions...

The famous Zoo Hagenbeck is no ordinary zoo: 500 species and 14. 850 animals live here in open enclosures which are designed to emulate their natural living conditions...
