Some 70 rental points and 700 bicycles are located at numerous rapid transport (S-Bahn) and underground (U-Bahn) stations in the extended inner city area as well as in larger residential and business areas and at important leisure and tourist attractions.
StadtRAD bikes can be used for free for the first half hour. Following this there is an initial rental charge of four cents per minute, increasing to eight cents from the 61st minute. So the cost of using a bicycle for one whole hour is just € 1,20. HVV season ticket holders (subscribers, Proficard, Semesterticket) and BahnCard customers pay three, then six cents per minute. The maximum charge per day is € 12,00.
Following a one-off registration process in the Internet; by phone or directly at one of the rental terminals at the bike stations users can hop on a bike and pedal away. Customers verify their identity at the rental terminals using an EC or credit card before receiving an unlocking code for their StadtRAD bicycle, which they then enter on the bike lock display pad. When the lock opens, the user removes the locking bar and is ready to go.
Should you want to leave your bike for a short time during your tour you can secure it using an additional lock which works using the same code as the one provided for the bike at the initial rental station.
StadtRAD bicycles can be returned to any of the cycle stations in Hamburg by simply locking them up using one of the vacant locking bars. Users then pay by credit or EC card at the rental terminal.
