Anaïs Drago is an Italian violinist and performer, born in Biella in 1993. Winner of Top jazz 2022 (referendum organized by Musica Jazz magazine) in the new proposals section, she moves between the sounds of free improvisation, electroacoustic music, jazz, pop. Awarded with first prize in Seifert Competition 2024, international contest dedicated to jazz string players, her name was included in 2023 and 2024 annual poll by New York-based magazine Downbeat as rising star in violin section.
As a leader, she has performed on some of the most important jazz festivals’ stages in Italy and abroad, also cooperating with Italian Institutes of Culture in Asia and Americas. Since 2021 she has dedicated an important part of her research and concert activity to the solo, which has earned her numerous awards from critics and the national press. She has played in duo with Enrico Rava and has been sharing the stage with musicians such as Louis Sclavis, Dado Moroni, Maria Pia de Vito, Bruno Chevillon, Daniele Roccato; since 2023 she is supported by WeStart centre of production.
She won several prizes and awards including the first prize in the Isio Saba competition (2022), SIAE award (2022), NUOVO IMAIE prize (2021) and over the years she has been invited as artist in residence by several foundations and colleges, such as Mahidol University in Bangkok, Fondazione Musica per Roma, International Jazz Platform in Lodz (PL). As a performer, Anaïs also plays aside pop music artists and for theatre productions, and at the moment she’s leading several ensembles. Anaïs has released three recordings as leader and co-leader (edited by Parco della Musica Records, CAM Jazz and by Another Music Records) and her name appears as special guest in several releases.
